about that 52kg lugguages

I hope those counter officers from Thai airway wouldn't see this post, otherwise such kind of exception will not happen again :pp

We knew it would definitely exceed the lugguage weight I was allowed to carry from the day I filled it up with souveniors. Especially I bought an extra large size of Samsonite suitcase from Spencers plaza for carrying all kinds of spices, Basmati rice, wheat flour, packed food, clothes, books, handcrafts, pottery and too many heavy stuffs. I couldn't even lift the filledup suitcase by myself!!

My rommmate Deepakshi is an experienced traveller, since there is not weight measurer at home, she lifted it and guessed the weight by gut feeling, "35kg easily!" We checked ticket to find out how much money I should pay for extra lugguage, 20USD Dollar per kg, holy cow!! (actually counter officer told it is 50x INR per kg, but it's still very expensive)

My indian family & Deepakshi suggested several ways to "avoid" this fine:

1. Check-in earlier, better be the first one to check-in.

2. Beg them by "reasonalble execuses". For example, "..I have been staying here for 7 months..it makes sence to have so much lugguages, especially I've alread shipped some by air & sea mail! (the truth is, I did ship about 15kg books & stuffs home, and it also costs me about 3300 INR :Q)" or "..if there are not too many passengers, would you please kindly allow me to checkin all this? I don't mean do exceed the weight..(also show a sincere face & honest smile)"

3. Split heavy things to handbag. But the thing is, you can't let them discover that hand luggagues might be more than 6kg since this is also a limitation.

4. Try to find a looking nice counter officer.

I did try the above 4 tips, but for the last one I failed becoz I was too early to be in the queue, no one was seated until 4 counters were lined up with crowds! I was forced to do a LUCKY DRAW. Fortunately, a friendly-looking man chose to sit in my counter; unfortunately, when he found I had 52KG lugguages, he did ask me to pay the fine.

I tried to explain the reason why I had so much stuffs (of course, with sounded reasonable & real execuses) but he insisted I should at least pay for extra 10 or 5kg; another officer (looked like a supervisor) came and asked what the prob was. "Are you a frequent flyer?" he asked. OH YES, YES I AM. Last time I also flew with Thai to Greece, why I forgot to mention this? "Are you having a Gold or Silver membership?" he kindly prompted again. Ahh?? I don't know what kind of membership I have, but..."I don't know..but I do have the membership with Thai..would you plz check that?"

They found it in the system and had quite a discussion. "All right, maddamm, please also bring that hand lugguage (I intended to take this polo suitcase as hand lugguage but actually it weighted 20kg -_-) to security check and come back, we allow you to checkin all lugguages WITHOUT paying anything."

God damn lucky day, that's all I can say. Markus (a german trainee) paid around 500euros for almost the same extra lugguages!! I must have done something good :pp
