英國劇作家　哈洛‧品特(Harold Pinter, 1930 - )　奪得桂冠

"who in his plays uncovers the precipice under everyday prattle and forces entry into oppression's closed rooms"

哈洛‧品特(Harold Pinter, 1930 - )出生於英國倫敦，為猶太後裔。就讀於皇家藝術學院(the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art)時，對於戲劇的見解與學院中的教師有很大的不同，於是他假裝神經崩潰因此退學。1954年以大衛‧巴倫(David Baron)的藝名，隨著劇團到愛爾蘭及英國各地巡迴演出，並於1957年開始他的戲劇創作生涯。

他的重要作品包括《生日派對》(The Birthday Party, 1958)、《啞巴侍應》(The Dumb Waiter, 1960)、《看門人》(The Caretaker)、《回鄉》(The Homecoming)、《背叛》(Betrayal)及《從灰燼至灰燼》(Ashes to Ashes)等。

"I don't know how music can influence writing, but it has been very important for me, both jazz and classical music. I feel a sense of music continually in writing, which is a different matter from having been influenced by it." (Harold Pinter in Playwrights at Work, ed. by George Plimpton, 2000)
