Steel City: Globe Works, Sheffield

Citizens of this Steel City are proud of that their steel once held an important place in industrialised Europe, however, they don't know how to polish their steel to maintain this honour. They only found a uncreative way to memorise this part of history by set up a statue standing awkwardly in a shopping centre, according to Alan Williams in his thesis 'The Typology of Industrial Buildings with Reference to the Steel Trades in Sheffield, 1750-1900'

Most of the manufacturers were abandoned and were left corrupted themselves. The Globe Works is one of the lucky few which is kept in good condition.

File Shops and fender shops, chambers (1825, was 2 storeys)

The original facilities in the factories are still using as office of an art agency (?). You can easily tell the addition in different material from the original on old buildings. And how users block the door those they are not needed any more. Windows are also replaced for modern and comfortable office life. This building was used as file shops and fender shops. The evidence of its previous hard-working life still exits on its side-wall.

Grinding Rooms (1832, 3 storeys)

What wondering is that some building was constructed in very strange way, i.e. steel T-beam and tie-rod are close to each other, and tie-rold is really close to the opening. The technique of laying bricks was not that clever either. This building was once full of energised workers, grinding sounds and shining sparks.

House, Warehouse and cellars (1825, 2-3 storeys)

The most elaborated part of whole group of buildings, a sign of the Glove Works built with fine-cut-faced stones, and classic architectural languages, in their bourgeoisie standard.

On the other side, materials are understandably different, only to save sterling. However you feel more relaxing and cosy walking here.

sorry,
I can't understand the relationship of these buildings...
are "they" the same building,
just the difference of facade and back...?

Okay!!
I think i should put a map on it, cause it's a large group of buildings.
but first, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th are pics of one building
and the 5, 6 are the the other one, rest of them (1, 7, 8, 9) are same building (like the admin. office) shooting from different direction.
