1895, it is when the Isles of Formosa (Taiwan and Pescadores Islands) were taken over by the Japanese Empire through the Treaty of Shimonoseki. It must have seemed to the Islanders, that the whole world had abandoned them. Some gave in, some didn't, and 1895 was just the beginning.

Historic steps on these islands were ever since differ to the old and dying Ching Empire after three centuries' domination. The Formosans try their best standing along where the Pacific Ocean, Kuroshio Tide and China Sea meet, up to today, and sometimes politically earn an honourable title -the trouble maker.

Some choose easier way, some don't, and this film is just the beginning of the story.
