Singapore Is Ranked World’s Healthiest Country

Using relevant data from the United Nations (UN), the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Bank, the country of Singapore has been named as the number one healthiest country in the world.

The Basis and Formula for the Ranking

The ranking was done by Bloomberg which gave every country with a population of at least 1 million a health score and a health-risk score. The health score and the health-risk score of each country was determined by a number of factors. The factors that were taken into consideration to take into account the health score and health-risk score of each country include the life expectancy, causes of death, number of smokers in the population, number of people with different kinds of diseases and disorders, and the number of vaccinations. Bloomberg calculates the countries’ rankings by finding the difference between the country’s health score and their health risk score.

The Benefits of the World Ranking

The World Economic Forum has stated that the ranking of the world’s healthiest countries and the world’s least healthy country is very helpful in guiding world leaders and politicians in addressing the different health concerns in their country. They also state that people should not confuse life expectancy with quality of life. People with lower income and lower life expectancy might have more satisfying and fulfilling lives compared with people with higher income and higher life expectancy.

Singapore is considered by many as a very healthy country because the government makes sure to provide affordable but high quality medical and health services for their citizens. Programs for the development of healthy living and quality way of life are always promoted by their policy makers. Sufficient budget is also allocated for health services and programs. It is ideal for the governments of the countries that are ranked low in the list of the world’s healthiest countries to look at the countries with the highest rankings on how they are managing and handling their respective country’s healthcare system so that their citizens will be able to live healthy lives as well.
