4 Things You Should Know Before Visiting A Dermatologist

Every individual is unique. Modifying this idiom in terms of beauty and skincare, it would sound something like this “every skin is unique” and it won’t be wrong. Every skin is different from each other and each one of them has their specific needs. So, do you know your skin type? If it is a yes you’re on the right path but if it’s a NO, you certainly got to know it fast.

Now, did your dermatologist ever said: “ you should have known few things about your skin before visiting me”? if not then you’re doing one of the two things: you already know all the things which you’re supposed to know or your dermatologist got a lot of patience.

Being concerned about your skin is a good thing but incomplete knowledge is harmful and not to forget, it pisses off your dermatologist. I’m sure no one would want to piss off their dermatologist.

Thus, here are few things that we’d like to share that your dermatologists want you to know before visiting them.

Is there a need for me to moisturize?

According to a dermatologist, the majority of their patients have a similar question and that is “do we really need a moisturizer?” This is not very difficult to understand because despite having the presence of natural moisturizers (glands that secrete oil) in our body, some people need additional moisturization to keep their skin hydrated to repair the damage that the sun does to the body during the day time.

Also, there might be genetical defects with a person and he/she where the skin lipids may or may not be present. The skin lipids which are responsible for keeping the moisture intact in between different layers of our skin, naturally. So, these people definitely need additional moisturizers without even consulting a dermatologist.

Do I need a moisturizer if my skin is oily?

People have this misconception that if they have an oily skin they don’t need to moisturize. No, it’s not like that, people who have oily skin even they have to moisturize. This is because these people unknowingly use harsh soap on their skin which damages their natural protective layer and thus to compensate you have to use a moisturizer.

Which moisturizer is best for my skin type?

In this matter, you should always seek the advice of a dermatologist who will do the necessary checkups and share your skin type. Generally, moisturizers with glycerine for sensitive skin, moisturizer with oil or oil based creams for dry skin, and moisturizers with lightweight gels and serums for skins with acne problems is preferred.

What are the different types of moisturizers available in the market and what’s the basic difference?

So, the answer to this question is already answered in the previous paragraph. However, based on the skin type, there are three categories of moisturizers humectants, emollients, and occlusives.
